Dr. Bac Phung earned her PhD in Mathematical and Physical Sciences from Kanazawa University, Japan (2009), then completed postdoctoral work at Kanazawa University and AIST (2009–2012) on materials simulation for sensing and energy storage applications. From 2013, she was a Research Fellow at JAIST studying photovoltaics and nanomaterials, followed by 04 years of teaching and research at the University of Fukui. Between 2018–2023, she led the Materials Design and Simulation group at VNU Vietnam Japan University and served as founding Executive Scientific Secretary of the VinFuture Prize Foundation founded by VinGroup Chairman. From 2023–2026, she was VinUni's Director of Research and Innovation, building VinUni Research Management Office and driving research funding, international partnerships, talent development, and innovation translation (IP, tech transfer, startups). Since 2023 until now, she has been Executive Director of VinUni Center for Environmental Intelligence (CEI) and faculty member in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. CEI is a global technology hub for sustainable development, combining advanced technology with interdisciplinary research to address pressing environmental challenges. Dr. Bac Phung’s research focuses on the design and development of advanced materials for next-generation energy storage, recycling materials, green hydrogen production, and sustainable clean energy technologies. She has developed particular expertise in high-performance computing, integrating large-scale computational simulation with experimental validation to accelerate the discovery and design of advanced materials. She is a member of Vietnam National Data Association, American Chemical Society and Materials Research Society, USA.
